DIY: Pink Ribbon Dessert Buffet

I found this wonderful buffet idea over at Hostess With the Mostess. I love, love pink and this is beautiful and a great idea!

Here’s the entire Pink Ribbon Dessert Buffet we recently created in honor of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month (coming up in October), which features the marshmallow pops and centerpiece posted earlier this week.

The goal was to keep this dessert buffet creative & visually appealing, but easy to recreate, so all of the treats are very accessible and easy to make… either store-bought or semi-homemade.

LOTS more images + DIY Tips for this buffet are below… and – as usual – the basic concepts can be modified to fit any color palette or occasion!

PINK RIBBON DESSERT BUFFET

• Think Pink!
Set out a spread of sweet treats with a common ingredient: PINK! Everything from candy to cookies to cupcakes will work.

• Just add Pink Ribbons… and Papers.
A simple band of pink ribbon or scrapbook paper will instantly transform simple clear or white serving dishes into fun, themed displays! Also try criss-crossing light pink ribbon all the way around clear glass containers and lining white trays with coordinating decorative papers.

• Create Visual Interest.
Use tiered serving dishes or upside-down bowls and tall candleholders to add height to some of your treat displays. Add a few non-edible decorative elements as well, such as a floral arrangement or Pink Ribbon Tree centerpiece and table runner.

• Bling, Bling.
Pink craft gems & rhinestones will add some fun sparkle to the dessert buffet! Use them to dress up containers or individually wrapped treats. Look for adhesive-backed gems to keep things easy.

• Lollipop, Lollipop.
Cover any flavor or brand of lollipop with pink tissue paper to create a color-coordinating treat. Twist the tissue under the bottom of the candy top and secure with a pink ribbon. Embellish with a rhinestone (optional).

• Semi-homemade
Keep things simple & easy by dressing up store-bought treats instead of making everything from scratch.

For this buffet we “made”:
• Pink Dipped Cookie Sticks (Pirouette cookies dipped in pink Candy Melts)
• “Drizzled Pink” Vanilla Cookies (sandwich cookies drizzled with pink Candy Melts)
• Strawberry-Chic Pink Cupcakes (with boxed cake mix & ready-made frosting)
• Pink Marshmallow Pops

(More detailed DIY tips for each will be featured in separate posts).

Other store-bought pink treats featured in the buffet: Ghiradelli Dark Chocolate with Raspberry Filling SQUARES (Target), Fling chocolate sticks in milk chocolate and hazelnut (Target), Archer Farms Raspberry Tea Cookies (Target), and Pink Rock Candy Sticks (Michaels).

Hot Color Combos

1.

For your guest book, cover a plain journal with a punchy fabric and create a bookmark with sunny grosgrain ribbon to entice guests to sign. Use aqua and yellow save-the-dates to give guests a sneak peek of what’s to come.

Spin your monogram in a clever way: Hang it over chair backs with your silhouettes. Download this template at TheKnot.com/DIYchair.

Mix up textures for place settings that guests will remember. Top a frosted, colored plate with a shimmery place card holder. A coating of spray mount and a roll in glitter help this lemon sparkle. Keep the place card simple, but let the centerpiece shine. A bold arrangement of cymbidium orchids, roses, calla lilies and ranunculus in a stark-white, square vase livens up any table.

Are you dreaming of a delicious dessert? Here’s the recipe for a major sugar rush: Surrender to your sweet tooth and serve white fondant cupcakes topped with sugar-molded lemons. These citrus tartlets can also double as escort cards; pop in personalized flags that show your guests to their tables.

2.

Black is white’s most dramatic accessory. Add texture to a solid white tablecloth with an unexpected layering technique. Also think about doubling up: Work a modern, graphic fabric with a solid black runner. Then complete the picture with coordinating napkins to match.

For the centerpiece, skip the flowers (just this once) and stack cake stands in the center. Offer guests a sweet takeaway with homemade snowballs.

Domino ribbon and decorative pom poms make boxes playful, but the really big surprise is inside: caramel ganache truffles.

Florals don’t look fussy in black and white. Instead, these black fondant flowers create a lovely graphic effect when paired with a pristine cake.

Calla lilies and cymbidium orchids go for the gold with spray-painted eucalyptus and a ribbon wrap, while gold baubles add vintage flair to sweet peas and peonies.

Dress up crowd-pleasing pink lemonade in high style: Rim the martini glasses with sparkly, edible gold flakes. This will definitely create a buzz whether you opt to spike it or not!

Give a modern square shape a soft, elegant spin with cascading sugar pearls, or make a round cake special with sugar lace appliqués.
